I picked up, what I think, is an International plow recently. The only stamping I could find was an IH inside of a C. The I was overlaid on the H, hence my thought that it was an International. Scanning your dicussions I found that most part no's start with PO?. The beams look like rail irons and have the corrosponding part no's- 1st beam po12778, 2nd po12572, 3rd po12813. The wheels are both steel and the rear is solid and it swivels. The hitch, comes into a flat bar with a hook on the end. The hook has two springs attached just behind it. The plow also has two levers that raise it off the ground and I assume, adjust the depth. It has only one complete molboard, one partial, and one missing. the yard I picked it up from has another plow, but it is incomplete. it does have three complete boards but instead of being solid, they have evenly spaced fingers. any information would be appreciated, model, year of mfg, etc.

Thanks- Drew

Drew I forgot to mention that those slats are expensive to replace. Just one is almost as high as a moldboard for the other style. I have a newer model 420 3x16 3 point hitch plow with slats on plow chief bottoms and I paid 80 dollars for only one slat from IH. This was 10 years ago, so may be higher now.

Yes, it does have all the linkage to lift the back of the plow up. also, is there anyway I can narrow the date of manufacture down? Georgeky said it was made between the 1920's up to the 1960's. As far as the slats go, there is a set of three there, all I have to do is pick them up. I should mention, that I rescued this plow from the cutting tourch. The farmer I got it from was cutting all this old iron up for scrap while cleaning up his yard. I don't plow, and I wanted a little piece of the past for my own yard. I just wanted to clarify what I had, and any information I could get on it. If anyone is interested in lending a hand, I could snap a few digital pic's of what you want to see and post them? I thank you all in advance for all the help and information.

Drew P.S. There appears to be some original paint on the inside of the main rail. A very dark blue/green. Does that sound close?

Drew I have no clue as how to determine the year it was made. I assume if it has only one lever sticking up and cylinder mounting brackets it would be one of the later ones, but like I said I don't know. They were Blue and red. I am glad you saved it from the torch they are great plows. I have a set of 3x14 and they do as good a job or better than any plow I have. I pull them behind a 1950 M.

Thanks Georgeky, I guess I'm off to the Case IH dealer for some paint codes and any literature I can get off of them. By the way, it does have two handles, so I'm hopeing that it is an older version. I'll also stop back and pick up the other three complete points and slats just to make it complete.

Drew: I agree with George, probably a No. 8, however you left out the one item that could clinch it and allow us to say, "100% gaurenteed you have a No.8 plow.

The item you left out is the tail wheel, is it a partially castering wheel with a linkage going from the tail wheel to the rockshaft of the left front wheel? This linkage causes the tail wheel to lift back of plow.

Now if it has a fixed tail wheel or no tail wheel, with no linkage to front wheel rockshaft, then it would be a No.4 Little Wonder plow. If it is a No.4 then it has the wrong hitch.

Question, did they ever make the No. 4 little wonder as a three bottom? All I ever heard of and all my operators manual list are 2 bottom for little wonder. And he did say a 3 bottom plow and I don't think a 3 bottom could carry that rear end without that lifting tail wheel.

Randy: Your right, he did, however his brief mention would not indicate which plow it is. It needs more detail.

Sounds like a no 8 Little genious plow and yes it is IH. They were made from the 20s until around 1960 with some modifications. The other plow you spoke of has slat bottoms for plowing in sticky soils they work well to. They will bolt right to the plow you have by switching the whole bottom.

Need to make sure that the slat bottoms are the same width as what you are replacing. 14" or 16"
