What you have is called a mini-moldboard. They are designed so that you can get the benefits of plowing and still leave residue to prevent erosion. The moldboards and parts can be purchased through Shoup Mfg.

The first time I seen this cut up moldboard style was in an artical about Fancis Childs of Iowa the National Corn Growers Champion, he credited it with helping him with his top yeild.

Moldboard was designed to plow deeper than usual and leave a great deal of residue on top of the soil. World champion corn grower, Fransis Childs uses these moldboards. Not sure if he invented them or someone else.

I've got a dollar that says it was cut that way. Several years ago there was a article in Farm Show that the guy cut his moldbaords like that to use it as a chisel plow. Suppose to pull easier. Chris

John: It started off as a regular super chief bottom and moldboard. I'd say someone with a vivid imagination did an expert job of cutting. Probably thought he was going to plow at 15 mph.
