Has anyone made their own foam markers for a sprayer? I have 62 acres of notill bean stubble that I'll need to spray with roundup for burndown before planting. I have a sprayer and find it hard to pay someone else to spray when I could do it myself and get chemicals cheaper than they charge. Or anyone know where there is a used one for sale? Just wondering, Chris

There is a company, Richway or something like that that makes small systems for 12 volt applications. I use them for walk behind fert spreaders. Basically what you get is a low volume air pump, switch, hoses, plastic bottle to put the soapwater in, and the hose and emitter nozzle. I think they go for $150 or so.

They are no trouble to make if you have an air scorce. I have made several out of old water heater tanks, you mount the tank vertically, fill it partialy with water and foamer mix,blow air into the bottom of the tank and plumb a hose off the top for the foam. The volume of foam is controled by the volume of air blown into the tank, use a check valve so foam solution doesn't feed back into the air compressor when you shut it off. I use 3/4 hose off the top for the foam with an empty 2 liter soda bottle with a 2" hole cut in the bottom on the discharge end of the hose to make the foam balls larger.

I suspect that you could do something pretty simple with a small electric pump from a garden/lawn sprayer - a small plastic tank and a couple nozzles on the ends of your spray booms.
