Hi,
I was hoping that mabey somebody could help me out. I am trying to help my dad find a good used round baler cheap. He has a limited budget to work with. Looking for a belted baler, not sure what to look for. What would be a good model that has a good reputation for durability. Brand not that important. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I bought a good John Deere 510 two years ago off dealor lot for 1200 dollars. They take these in on trade and sell them cheap to get rid of them. All dealors do not operate this way though.

Yes they do when they have JD510 balers. They don't even get bids at the auctions.

For the money you can not beet Vermeer, I think. I have had a 605C that I have had for a few years. Paid $2000 for it a dealer. Was at an auction a year a go where they had 3 like mine. I bought the last one for $300 figured I would use it for parts. Got it home and looked it over good and it looked better ( and ran better I foind out) than my old one. I keep both greased and ready to go. If a bearing goes down, I can swap and fix it later. I have a dealer close by but he does not stock many parts for old ones. Napa has a cross referance book for all my bearings and that is about all I have had to replace, besides #80 master links.

Lot of bales a year, or more like a hobby baling setup?

Does he want big 5x6 bales, or little 4x4 bales?

Vermeer came out with the open throat baler design with their model F, they are old but bale pretty good. Follow the letters up on how new you want it/ what you can afford. :)

JD is pretty good starting with the model x35. They cost a lot yet.

NH makes good ones too, not sure where the 'good' model starts.

'Round me the Vermeer is a good value for the cost, dealer is close enough at 50 miles.
