Plow shin wear ?

Hi All , When's a shin worn enough to replace it ? I think one on my Oliver 565 might need replacing because it's about 1/4" from the frog now and about an inch from the end of the top of the new share . Would it last for a few more acres ? I don't plow much , I've only used it once at a plow day last year but I'm looking forward to a couple more plow days in a few weeks so I want to be sure it's tuned up as best as I can get it with what little knowledge I have on them . I have the manuals but no practicle experience with them yet other than a broken frog and share last year . I didn't have time to set up the tractor to it last year but that didn't stop me from having fun ! But this year naturally I want to do it right . Thanks ! ...Randy

Yup, go until it almost starts into the frog. Any more and it's just extra metal going in the scrap barrel.

My goal with wear parts is to get as much life as I can from them without wearing into the frog.... So, if ya got a 1/4" left before it get's the frog, ya got a 1/4" left to go.... Sounds like you're not doing much plowing anyway, so keep an eye on it and it'll likely be fine.... or if you take the notion, just change it. If it was mine, I'd leave it a while yet....
