JD #44 plow info

I have a 44H with the leveling crank instead of the lever. I am under the understanding that they did this instead of the levers for only 2-3 years, and that this ended aroun 1948.

Here are my questions: During what years did John Deere make the model 44 plow? Approx how many were made? Is the above info I have correct? Where can I find info on the Internet on the 44 plow? Whenever I do a search I get tons of hits for stuff on eBay. Thanks.

I found the Green Magazine article. It was in the October 2002 magazine, page 14. It says "Introduced in 1945 as the medium duty replacement for both the No. 54, and 4B, the 44 was available as a two bottom with either 12, 14, or 16" cut". Then it goes on to say what Bob Collins mentioned. Then says "The 44 was given the new high speed bottoms and other improvements that the other plows in the John Deere line received in 1957 and became the No. 444." Doesn't mention anything about when levers or cranks were used though. Hope this is some use to you.

The #44 plow was built from 1945-1957. There were 4 versions 44, 44A, 44H and 44AH. The 44 and 44A were clutch lift and the "H" models were hydraulic lift and depth control. The "A" models transported on all 3 wheels. 44 and 44H transport on 2 wheels. As to production figures the best you are likely to find is LOTS and LOTS of them.

Try on the JD forum or on greenmagazine.com forum. Green magazine did some extensive articles on JD plows years ago. I'd have to figure out which old issue they covered it in. Some of those have their articles and magazines indexed and could get the info for you faster than I could.

You can get a manual for that plow. Call 1-877-698-3033 and it covers 4 or 5 of their plows.
