I have seen on here that New Holland had two different designs on baler feed systems early on. I have a NH 273 which is the flat top design that is they eventually did away with, but during that time what models were the high back design that are the forerunners to the NH balers of today. Any comments on their reliability?

I have a NH 320.Picked it up used five years ago.I had to replace one bearing and one belt when I got it.It has been a very reliable machene. I would like to have a 570,but,can not justafie the cost.NH invented the auto tie bailer, why go with anything else?

Actually, the 66 had another, different feed system than either of those you mention - it had an auger and a wadboard.

Father bought a 273 new and we still use it today. 2-3,000 bales every year since it was new back in (?) we have had to rebuild the knotters around 10 years ago, and for this year I'll need to replace the knotter drive chain due to excessive streching. The kicker needed a few bearings on the driveshaft, and the belts will need to be replaced at some point. It is kept inside unless being worked. We will have 10-12 bales that do not knot propperly every year. I can't think of many other pieces of equipment that can hold a match to that kind of reliabality. Mike

the 270 (short tongue) and 271 (long tongue) (same baler otherwise) had the vertical feed chain in around 1964 +/-. i had a 270 for a long time, good shaped bales, but not as much capacity as the 311 i have now.

about the same time would be the midsized 276, and larger 278. a little later would be the midsized 315, and the larger 320
