I have a John Deere B grain drill that I am working on. We use it every year but it needs a little work. The "power Lifts" dont hold anymore and when I took them apart the "ridges" inside are worn down to the point that they wont hold anymore. Is there anywhere to get parts for these old drills? I know I can get disks and all but dont know a cast part like this. Also does anybody know what years the B was made? Thanks

Not sure when made? Maybe late 40s into 50 or eve early 60s yet? Thought they replaced it with the DR & DR-A in early 60s. Try some salvage yards for hydraulic or even lever lift parts to change over adeptr.com (parts then state). Also try Burrells in Oklahoma for drill parts.

I have seen several that have been changed over to a hydraulic lift. It's a lot less mechanism to deal with and easier to operate. I've got the parts book and will send you a copy of the pages you need and some demensions from my drill which is equipped with the hydraulic. Just let me know if I can help and send me your email. If you need to pick up the drill sections, you can use a big (15"or bigger) crescent wrench on the square pick-up shaft. To make a permanent fix, weld some ears on this shaft and add a couple of hyd cyl's to pick up, instead of the power-trols.

No need to weld anything on these old drills for a hydraulic lift. There was a factory option but most farmers didn't want them or didn't have hydraulic remotes on the tractors to utilize the hydraulic lift on the drill.

A few parts could be fabricated for hydraulic lift without welding them to the frame or any other part of the drill.

I would like to buy one of these pull type(not hydraulic) grain drills. no hydraulics on my JD D to hook to.

depending on where you are and how far you're willing to travel, they can be found pretty common around here on older farms. We've got a 12' mechanical lift model B that we still use every year, but there are a few farms around us that have them too. 1 place to start looking is http://wisfarmer.com/ under classifieds.

Thanks for the help. I think I will try to put a hydraulic cylinder on it.
