I had a 241 for many years. the double spring does help. Two weaknesses i see is it has very light bearings and the expensive bottom belt if you have to replace.

the only way i could get mine to start a bale right was to end up on one side of the windrow, tie the bale off and then, as quick as i could by zig zagging, get some hay all the way across the width of the baler. i think that a lot of the problems with the bale density was related to the power of the tractor hydraulic system in keeping pressure on the belts. we could put down pressure on the bailer with the hydraulics a couple of times during the forming of the bale and it would do better. may have been problems with the hydraulics on my ih 574.

That is the nature of the beast and a lot of other rollers to. I bought a 510 JD last year and it is the same way. There is nothing wrong with your tractor these rollers do not roll a tight bale. It does help to have the double spring kit.

They dont roll the tightest roll you ever seen but they do hold up good. I have a 241 and a 2400 that we bought new in 1980 it has rolled thousands of rolls. They are very cheap around here 200 dollars will usually buy one at auction. There is a double spring kit you can install if it don't already have one that will tighten up those rolls some. I have a extra spring kit if you need it email me.
