Joe, I think the guys got you covered well on it and they are right about the one with hand crank. Keep it for sure. I had dug out 3 older original versions of the 44 operators manuals that cover 44, 44AH, & 44H and none showed the one with hand crank. It may show it in later versions of the manual or parts catalog though.

i'd hang on to that plow, it is kinda rare due to they didn't make those with the crank but just 2-3 years. i know a guy that might have a hose holder, let me see if i can find his # and i'll post back to you

I have a plow exactly like yours, except that mine has 14" bottoms. I just picked mine up about a month ago in Northwestern OH. I currently have it almost all in primer, am waiting on a rim to replace a bad one. Luckily mine came with a owner/parts manual. You can go to www.jdsmodela.com/JDplowpage.html to see how far I've gotten on it.

Your plow is a #44H like the other guys said, it was made before 1948, that is when the leveling crank got changed to a lever. The #12 frame means the standards (the part the plow bottom bolts to) can be switched to make it a 10" or 12" plow because these standards are offset. This feature makes the 44 a rather unique plow.

That would make yours the small frame plow for 10" or 12" cut, the mid frame is for 12" or 14" and is most popular, then the large frame for 14" or 16" and second most popular

Your plow is probably a #44H with 2 12" bottoms. I have a 44H with a No.16 Frame. Your No. 12 Frame is a little more rare than mine. The hose holders are hard to come by. Keep checking this web site and Ebay. Go to local swap meets and shows. You will find one. I sold one a few years back for $80. Good Luck! Mark

Not sure if I have a 44 manual to look in or not? You might post this over on the JD forum also and if can post a pic that would help also. Only found 2 pics of the 44 on implement photos section. See if your JD dealer has a 44 drawn plow parts catalog PC402 or operators manual OMA1352 as that might help. They may have called it a 44H, H for hydraulic lift, but I don't find a seperate manual listed for that. Didn't see anything listed for a #12 plow or frame either.
