 I wouldn't be without my Lundell in reply to gyger---indy, 03-04-2007 04:52:51
I bought a Lundell. They are cheaper and they can blow most anything including wet snow. This is because they are single stage 1000rpm PTO. They have a poor reputation because they need alot of horse power. I use a 145 hp JD 4430 and could use more. I was inching with the clutch through some 3+ft froze drifts today and nearly killed the tractor a couple of times!!! But all considered I wouldn't be with out it. Its the only blower that I've seen that can blow wet snow.

Pronovost would be the top of my list. Lucknow would be the second, if not cheaper option. With that kind of power, you'll want a good strong blower. That would be Pronovost. From what I've seen of them, they've got the strongest construction, best cast rate, and generally the most efficient design of any available locally. I still use an old McKee, but they haven't been built in probably 20-30 years... mabey more. A good blower for their day. The worst I used was Allied.....

Just curious, is that your smallest tractor, or the smallest with a cab? I just spent the last week blowing alot of snow with my IH 544 Deisel and a JD Blower. I never ran outa power at all, shear bolt would go before tractor bogged down. I do need a new one though, my tractor is about a foot wider than the blower, which makes >3 foot drifts a little more time consuming. The 544 is 56 HP I beleive stock, but I think she is turned up a notch on the pump. I am hoping to be able to handle an 8' dual ager, if they come in 540 pto.

I have a Buhler unit 3pt double augers, been used one year setting shed since. Made chute extension so you could still see out the back without being whiteout. Let me know. It was used on mfwd 4450 with big loader in front also now. I don't need it as I have that loader and another 4440 with loader and a skidloader.

I have a Schulte 9600 that I use behind a McCormick CX105 I am gonna put it behind my John Deere 7700 next time it snows. It will easily clear 2 feet of wet snow and 4 foot drifts of powder no problem. My McCormick is 85 PTO Hp and the 7700 is turned up to 145 so I will let you know how it goes. I really like blowning snow I have contracts in town with several businesses

I've been running a 74" Farm King (made by Buehler Industries in Canada) for about 15 years now. Wouldn't be without it. Heavy-built, virtually no problems. Usually run it with a 52 h.p. Ford 4600, but sometimes on a 84 h.p. 7600. 4600 has enough power unless you get into big drifts/packed snow. For 100-150 h.p., I'd say take a look at a Farm King 8'. Lets you step up to dual augers for those real big drifts.

Jump over to the Oliver forum and take a look at
SW3 pictures with him blowing snow on page 1. I wouldn't get a blower over 5 feet. Traction is a big concern in heavy snow. I just use a 10hp
28" blower. Hal

That picture was taken with a digital camera and then downloaded to MY Pictures and then to My Documents. I should have sent an email to myself of the picture, this will reduce the size considerably. Here's the picture after being emailed. Hal

I do not have much experience with 100 HP+ tractors, but here are my comments based on a decade with a 76 blower here in Wisconsin. I have used a MF165 and now a Kubota M5700. Power has not been as big a deal with either tractor as the traction, so 4 wheel drive is a big help. To really use 100-150 HP blowing snow you will be able to cut a very wide swath, but this seems to be of greater importance if clearing airports rather than driveways.

I've got about 45 hp running a 7 ft Lucknow. It spent its first 20 years with 52 hp in front of it. Works well, I need to take the shoes off so it will scrape better.
