Was wondering if anyone knew anything about these? I found one for sale and it looks to be a good machine but I don't know what to look for.
Any help would be appreciated.

Very good machine. Work for a guy cropping approximately 600 A. taking 2-3 cuttings per year. In our experience, the larger CV joint at the tractor needed to be greased a lot. We grease every 2 hours. Greasing every 8 hrs and the joint would last one season. $1000 to replace the joint vs extra grease. Had one Hesston and three CaseIH. Needs at least 100 HP to get significant acerage cut. Bearings on conditioner rolls next thing to fail. Changed oil in cutter gearbox religiously every 100 hrs. Good luck.

Rebuilt one last year for local dealer, put a whole new bar in it. Fellow really tore it all to h4ll. Some guys can tera up stuff in half hour. We quit renting hay equipment out now basically. Anyway back to your question its a good machine like was mentioned already. i was going to keep it but we got it sold before I had it all redone. I still have the old bar if you get it and would like it for parts way down the road. Keep the oil level correct inthe bar and it should be good unit for you

They were built by Hesston and are probably one of the best discbine's built in their day. The same basic mower is still being built as the Hesston 1345 (the 1340 is the same as the 8312) with some small improvements. I would check the disks for wear as well as the conditioner roller's. On the later models a 2pt swivel hitch was available that is the prefered hitch but they are hard to find and expensive to buy.
