Sirs, just got an old ezee flow 10 ft. lime spreader. No manual, of course. No lids on hopper area to keep out the rain. Anyone know what they looked like? Thanks

I bought a model 100 this past summer/fall for $100. I haven't used it yet but its in real nice shape, other than you have to pump the tires up after it sits awhile. The lids are just a square tin looking thing, kind of like a small thin medal box. I didn't really need it but the son was selling all their old no longer used equip. because the barn was coming down. I have an 8'JD, KEEP IT PAINTED WITH USED MOTOR OIL when your finished using it, thats the best medicine against fertilizer. I can make you a copy of my manual if you like, just pay me for the paper & shipping?

I'm lookin at the hydraulic cylinder here in the parts book. The number for the complete unit is 975-B.The company went out of bussiness back in the late 70's,but maybe you could find a cross referance.IMO the next best thing to used oil would be fluid film.Good luck

i thought about all the pros and cons today about using one of these machines and can't figure out why you would want to use one of them to start with. its slower to use to cover much acreage with, harder to clean afterwards and takes up more storage space in a shed that just a plain everyday 3 point hitch type spreader run off of the pto does.

I have both and also rent the co-ops big spreader. The drop spreader does a better, more even spreading job, particularly with urea. We only use it to top dress wheat. With a light tractor (in our situation either a MH 81 or JD 430) and this spreader, you can't see the tracks in a couple of days. Tried the 1000 lb 3pt spreader with the 730 and it causes too much damage. Have spread urea on wheat when it was 10 inches high.

Any idea what an ezee-flow 12 foot wide spreader would be worth?

Brad,- Thanks for your reply. I have a 12 foot "100" model in decent shape That I don't use anymore and your post got me wondering. As the years go by they are fewer and far between.

I bought one a few years ago in pristine shape for scrap price. Sold it still in pristine shape a couple years later still for scrap price. I just never seemed to get enough time to handle all those bags when a bulk spreader would cover 4 times the area, at 2/3 the cost.

i agree with what you say. i guess the only safe way to do it would be to put it down in a vat of burnt motor oil and leave it until you have to use it again. i bet somebody else has a better suggestions on what to put on it after its cleaned.

Dad had a 10 footer and after cleaning it, also coated it with used oil. Lasted a long time. Stored in the back of an old shed, unused for 20 years or so, and with a lot of help from the groundhogs it sunk into the ground and it became worthless. I bought mine about 8-10 years ago at an auction for $75. Towed it at around 25 mph for 75 miles to get home. Greased the wheel bushings about every 8-10 miles. After cleaning I spray on WD40 or equivalent. If not used, check it about once a year and reapply if necessary. Costs a little more than used oil, but I don't like to get that black crap on me. I added the hydraulic control. Salvage Parts had the ideal small cylinder and other parts. With just a little effort was able to get it installed and it looks "factory". Got tired leaning back and running that lever when doing 40-50 acres.

James 22 Could you send a picture of the hyd ram on your spreader. I have one and the lever will not stay in place. Would like to see your set up.
Thanks JDJACK

Two problems to over come. The spreader is behind the truck, a tractor and the planter. Too dark for a picture, will get one later this month after getting the planter out. Second problem may be getting them posted. I will prompt you when I get the photos and ask for guidance or perhaps better yet would be to send them to your e-mail. I am certainly not a computer wizard, more like a computer "whiz" as my son would say. However, the tables are drastically turned when manual labor and wrenches come in to play. Anyway it is on my "to do" list. I do wonder why the lever is moving, could your tractor's hydraulic valve be leaking? I did add an adjustable relief to the stroking side of the cylinder because I wanted the minimum force to be used to move the lever. The adjustable lever stop plate is not too stout, and I didn't want it to become damaged. The cylinder rod had a threaded coupler with a jam nut, so adjusted the length such that the spreader would just be closed when the cylinder rod was retracted. Probably wouldn't be a problem with the smaller tractor which has a low pressure hydraulic, but the worry was if any of the tractors with a high pressure system would be used.

There is no cylinder on the spreader. It has a lever. The bolt and wing nut will not hold.

If you are really interested in doing this, here is the list of the parts I bought from Surplus Center, Lincoln, NE, phone 402-474-4055. You may not want the relief valve and you will also need to locally buy hoses and fittings. The cylinder is most important, don't know if they still have it, but it works/fits very well. If you can get the cylinder then be sure to get the clevis. I have a more recent book and there are other options, but I know this one works well.

Item No. Description Cost $
964 JT-50 relief valve 42.50
1-1766-F Rod end clevis w/pin 3.69
9-5538 1.5 inch Hyd cyl 59.95

they were two lids on them and meet in the middle with a strip of metal in between them to seal off the ends. the were hinged on the front so you could load them easy from behind. you can put fertlize out with them too. to engage them you fliped a lever on the end of each axle. you'll have to really clean it out good with water and then i always poured burnt motor oil all over the inside. i guess you'd have epa people all over you if you did that now. not many of them left around now.

My manuals for this machine says the 12 ft model can hold 2000 to 2400 lbs, but they don't say whether that's lime or fertilizer. The 10 ft model is supposed to hold 1400 to 2000 lbs. Anybody know where I can get a Fertizer and Seed Regulator plate? All models use the same plate to set the rate of flow.

I have a 12 ft one and have determined that although you can wash it out very good on the inside, fertilizer collects in the "pockets" inside each of the wheel axles. These pockets contain a sprocket that can be used to drive the grass seeder attachment. Bottom line is that I now remove both wheels and axles after spreading fertilizer, and completely wash this area out. If you don't, eventually the sides around the thru port for the drive "auger" will rot. Requires about 15 minutes a wheel/axle. I always use antiseize on the axle mounting bolts when reassembling.
