What did I buy - JD sickle?

I bought this thinking I could get it working with a bit of work. But now that I have it at home I noticed there is no way to hook it up to a 3 point hitch.

Can anybody help me to identify it? To see pics of it, go to EBAY item #330078481102.

If anyone knows someone who can use it, let me know. I think it is of no use to me.

If it would hook up to a 3pt, I would put it into action.

So, rather than let it sit, if someone can put it to use I am sure we can work something out.

I need to get rid of it.

Is there a piece missing?

I wanted to use this on my Ford 2n. Doesn't seem like I will be able to hook up to it.

If this is the case, this is not much use to me. Wonder if anyone else needs it? I live in Eastern PA.

The pitman arm is missing. I will have to replace that... As far as I know it is the wooden type, but the length and hookup I have figured out yet.

So far, I know it is not a 50 (thanks to you guys).

So we are looking at maybe a 37, 38, 39, or a 40 or an M.

I guess we can rule out the 5?

I have been looking for good pictures of all of the above but no luck.

I have seen some pics of 5's, but not a good view of the sickle part itself.

This might be a good clue to those that know whether this is a mid mount or rear mount.

The picture is from the front of the unit. There is a big "C" frame there, with a bolt in the middle and two clips on each side.

Notice how the "C" frame is offset to the left. That is, the PTO shaft is not in the middle, but over to the right of it.

It seems that if it were a mid mount, the chain and pulley would be in the way.

Another good picture to look at is the second one down in the left column.

That is, the blade faces forward (of course) and the shaft does as well.

Looks like I have a real puzzler here.

How do I post pictures? I can take a good shot of the front, maybe that would give a clue as to how it should mount.

Every part has a number stamped on it, but I can"t find a model number.

I paid $100 for it. I bought it when I went to pick up a blade I bought from the guy. He didn"t know much about it.

Not certain if it is going to be of any use to me as it is.

I can take a better photo of it, but I don"t know how to post a picture.

I would NOT modify this. I would have this identified and sell it. It's worth more than 75 bucks!
