Hello, Well, a few weeks ago I asked for some advice on here and also people locally about a JD 1209 moco. I got some that said it was a bad model and avoud it and others said it was a good old mower that provided years of work. Well,I went to look at one today at a dealer for $1500 and ended up buying it. The sheetmetal wasn't beat up and the paint looked really nice (the guy shedded it).The crimp rollers were excellant. The sickles and the underneath was still shiny, like it was used to cut hay last year. There was no welds around the gear box or anywhere else for that matter. I did not see any play in the wobble box. It had the equal angle hitch. All in all, it looked like a really good and well maintained machine. I will probably be cutting about 45 acres with it this year. Keep your fingers crossed and I hope that those who said it was a bad model wont be telling me "I told you so" come June. I really do value the opinions on YT forums and wouldn't have known of all the trouble spots to check on this mower had it not been for your all's replies. Thank you all.

Check the condition of the guards, particularily the cutting edge. If it is rounded like a piece of wire, replace the guards.

Does it have non-clog or regular? There are some new regular guards that are more pointed (slimmer) and cut better. However, non-clogs are the best for difficult conditions.

Thanks Roger. I haven't got it home yet. The implement dealer is supposed to deliver it. When they do , I will check the guards over real good. thanks again for the info.
