Hesston 1014

In reply to your post below. I had replaced all the sections and bolts before it went to the field last year. I also replaced the worst guards, but I think I will replace the rest this spring. I have the two piece guards. I will have to check closely then to see of the frame is straight or not. It looks like it is high in the center. We have rocks in this country.

Still can't believe a 4010 would only pull 12'. They were 85 PTO HP from the factory and most have been overhauled to 4020 spec engine and pump.

I have checked out Sickleservice. Looks good, but shipping across the border would add some cost and delay. I can buy aftermarket guards made by Westward Parts from a local shop for a similar price.

Liked my 1014. This spring I have to tear into the auger drive before haying. That big drive sprocket on the left side is so loose you can wiggle it side to side about half an inch. Can't see starting to cut hay with it like that. With the new digital camera I will be posting pics when I start the work.

Where are you located in WI. I lived in West Bend for a little over 4 years. Great place and great people. Was sad to leave.

I'm not sure of all the differences between a 1014 and a 1014+2, but I do know the +2 has 2 sickels that come together in the middle like a scissors, and the 1014 doesn't. So far we like it alot. My first taste of a 14' hydra swing was about 3-4 years ago when we were buying some hay right off the feild and we rented a newer Hesston model to knock it down quicker. From then on I was hooked and last spring I stumbled across ours in a small scrap yard while I was looking for something else, I think it may have been a few rims.

We got it for $1200, rebuilt it for another $1200, and then another $80 or so for a new 11L 15 because it came with car tires on it and we already had 1 11L in the shed for a spare. Works out good too because all the wagons we have implement tires on are larger now, and the smallest is 10.00-15. Just gotta get another one mounted on the new spare rim now...

Seems kinda odd to me too if a 85 HP tractor can't run more than a 12' moco. The only problem a guy would possibly have is the back end can get a little squirly on a steeper hill or if you go too fast around the corner. Our 105 HP 1855 just toys with it. Our 285 is a pretty good match...

I have the parts book. It shows a woodruf key. The whole sprocket is loose on the shaft due to wear in one or both components. Right now its buried under snow and I have my cows to calve before I get too excited about it. Do you know if it is possible to lift only one side of the auger or do I need to completely remove it?
