We run 14" Hesston 1014+2 with a weak Massey 285. I"m not sure how big a 4010 is, but if it"s got 75-80 HP and a little weight to it, a 14" machine will be fine. On corners the mower tends to push the rear end a little bit if on a slight incline or going too fast.

I like our 285 on it because the engine lets you know quicker if there is a problem going on like if it"s beginning to plug. The Oliver 1855 is good in the hotter months though because it"s got a canopy overhead to keep the sun off.

A 12 foot would be the max that I would go. The 14 foot in my mind is just too big for a 4010. A 14 foot would be good on a 4020.

JC

I would have to say that depends on the MoCo. Last summer I pulled a Hesston 1014 (14 foot cut) behind my 4010 in third gear, no sweat. It was the first year I used it and did not have the cutterbar quite up to snuff. If it started to plug then the 4010 would start to snort. Other than that it was just fine. My cousin has a 16 ft NH 1475, which he says in the right conditions is a load for his 1175 Case.

My $0.02

If you still need to rebuild the sickle bar and the other wear parts, try sicklesercice.com. Last summer we bought a 1014+2 (2 sickles driven off either end) and the sickle was shot, a bunch of guards were worn out, and so were the hold down clips. We got a whole kit from them, new sickle, all new guards and hold down clips, plus a few extra sections and a tool for the bolts for about $1200, including shipping. We looked around a little bit and they pretty much had the best price of all.

Everything came really fast too, espescially that the guy is from Nebraska if I remember right.

What wasn't too bad I kept in a bucket for future repair parts, but it cut really nice once it was shined up.

Also consider your circumstances. If there are any gates, cuts, fills, or trees you have to go through you will need to see what is the maximum you can get through. Remember many mower-
conditioners are offset (at least the older ones) from the tractor even when in transport mode, so you could be looking at being nearly 20 feet wide.

We've got a small NH and it still barely can brought back our driveway, any bigger would be impossible.
