Oliver Raydex bottoms and 4240 Questions

First question: On the Oliver 4240, I was told there were those with a big rear wheel and a small rear wheel. Were these just different options available at the same time, or was one used before the other?

Second Question: Is a Raydex share a Raydex share or are there different sizes?

Third Question: On the Raydex shares, why is there a clipped corder on the leading edge? Do these things really pull easier than the rest?

Here is a pic of one I restored last fall. It is a late model with large rear wheel.

The plow share is from 12 to 18 inch and the share, if it says Radex will have a set of letters and numbers that tell you the width of cut per bottom (ex. R14R, RR14R, or RCA4 is a 14"; R16R, RR16R, or RCA6 is a 16; etc.). You can also tell which it should have by the width between the beams. If you go to get shares, the 16" shares are usually less expensive than the 14 or 12. All you need to do is cut them off to 14 or 12 with a chop saw.

The Radex share is curved, making it easier to go into the ground etc. If you go to a farm store or another to get the shares, good luck on how it plows. The original bottom parts are available thru your local AGCO dealer and it will do a better job. We have a lot of Amish here that buy original shares because they plow so much easier.

Thanks for the information. I was looking at the manuals I have and I am almost starting to think I can just drop the third bottom off my plow to make it into a 2nd and wouldn't have to buy any parts or anything. Is that true?
