Hubby and I have now taken over the hay field and are looking at a used Krone 160 (1995) 4x5 net wrap round baler. We don't know much about balers, but have been looking for a while. We would appreciate any words of wisdom about this baler. The baler is at a dealer who says they went through it and it is field ready. We will be using a JD 70 diesel to run it. The field is 10 acres and has a very, very gentle slope - no big hills and we won't be baling hundreds of bales a year.

If you have a farmer nearby I would talk to them about this baler. They may willing to take a look
at the baler and give you their opinion. They may even know someone that own a Krone 160. I'm sure some of the men that post on here can give the pros and cons on what to look for and problems they may have encountered. Hal

I have been considering buying a 130 Krone baler and have been researching them. From what I can gather they are a very reliable baler that is very easy to run and very seldon gives any problems. They have less moving parts than most balers. I currently have a Claas baler and like it really well but the problem with them is the parts are very expensive! From what I have learned the Krone parts are quite reasonable and the bearings are generic and can be purchased at any NAPA or Carquest auto parts. Don't know if you know the difference in balers or not but the Krone is a Fixed chamber baler as the Claas is and they will not put up a bale as tight as the variable chamber belt balers will. Personally this does not bther me that much. One advantage is the fixed chamber has a soft core and it is more forgiving if your hay is marginally dry enough to bale.
