I bought a IH 430 baler at an auction this past weekend to replace the IH 46 I had. Is there any thing I need to know about this type of twine baler? It came with a #10 thrower which I am going to remove and if anyone would need a thrower let me know. Also the baler says "all twine" on the side, so does that have any special meaning? If anyone has information on this type of baler please let me know. Thank you!

I went to a sale near Coldwater, OH last weekend and saw both a 430, 46, and a 435 there. You didn't happen to buy it there, did you? I looked at the 46 for parts, as I have a 46 I use. I have a friend who has a 430, he likes it, and I have baled behind it before, worked good.

Yes I did buy that 430 at Coldwater and the 46 was mine. I ended up getting double for what I payed for my 46 and I did not pay very much for the 430. Yes the 430 looked rough, but I think it can be cleaned up and used. If it doesn't work I will sell it. I almost got the 435 which I thought was nice, but someone else got it.(the person ended up be a parts man) Also I am only a senior in high school and I'm trying to start my own hay operation. Sorry to type so much, I just wanted to give everyone the information.

I have a 430 and really like it. It does make a nice, tight bale. Where are you located? I may be interested in that kicker.

I am located in northwest Ohio near Lima. I have another question hopefully someone can answer where is the serial number located on these balers? Thanks again.

The ID plate is up at the front of the bale chamber, on the inside near the flywheel. I guess I'm not interested in that kicker. I'd like one, but I'm in N.H. (too far to ship it)
Thanks anyway.

one difference between an IH and most NH's is that an IH will bale hay when it is a little tough to save alf. leaves. we used to quit when it got too dry at the same time the NH guys were going out to bale. We didn't have trouble with leaf loss, on the other hand you can keep those banana makers (NH)

i wore out a 440 and i always had problems with one side of the string being to close to the out side of the bale. as far as keeping the area around the knotters clean i actually made a bracket that i could mount an air tank over the discharge chute onto. i added an hose to it and a blower. when you started missing bales all you had to do was get off and blow out from under the needles real good and it would go back to bailing. each of the balers 420, 430 and the 440 made different size bales. by that i mean the cross section on each baler was differnt. there was alot of parts on the 47 that would fit them so if you have one keep it for parts. i had the short tongue version and didn't tie the drive shaft up when moving it by truck and the truck went up a little rise and came down and drove the drive shaft into the ground and broke the flywheel off the front. a gear box from a 47 bolted right on.

all-twine, Mine is a 440 all-twine and will take sisal or poly twine. I switched from sisal to poly with no adjustments. Keep the twine knife sharp and should work ok.

My Dad had a 46 when I was a kid. Then I bought a 430, not much difference, maybe a little more capacity. They tie the same, same knoter. I now have a NH 570. Really like that baler, tremendous capacity, seldom miss a bale. The problem with IH balers is the cross auger. If you are baling alfalfa, the crossauger tends to strip the leafs off the stems. You have a pile of leaves on the wagon below the bale shoot.

Got a IH-430, but it is wire tie. If you need manuals, let me know your exact model and serial number. Some of the manuals cover only certain series of serial numbers. Tom

Yes-I have a 420 same baler. First DO NOT use cheap twine unless you like stopping alot. Second Make sure the knotters stay clean-or you will have issues. Other than that it makes nice tight bales.
