New Holland 78 baler knotter

First time posting a message here. Love this site.
I have an old 78 square baler which leaves a small loop in one string knot, it does not completely pull the string end through. The knot is tight and does not pull apart so is not a major problem at present but I am new to these balers and would like to solve. I have a manual but does not give me this sort of discription, I would appreciate your input.

if you want to fix it, and spend some money, i'd first try a different used bill hook, or a new bill hook. there are two styles, sometimes the one made for plastic twine has a smaller opening, but also works good on sisal. it also can be caused by the wiper part of the knife arm. it could be the knife arm, i usually replace that when i want a better knot and can't bend or adjust the knife arm the way i want it.

Most likly your bill hook either has the little tip wore down or needs just a tad more tension on it. The loop occurs when the knot comes off the billhook to easily. The tip on the billhook is sposed to hold the twine till the wiper clears the billhook off thus pulling the two ends through the knot. Also make sure the twine knife is cutting the twine clean.
