Mike,
Started a new post, since that one was going back pages.

Anyway, that Lubriplate Gear Shield is like tar. I had done some digging around when I couldnt find it. All descriptions described it as similar to wheel bearing grease thickness with additives to make it more sticky. This keeps in on the gears.

It will makes a major mess if you get in on you or your clothes. Interesting that they sell it as a aerosol.

I used it every morning on my swing turret gears when running my excavator.

The guy where I bought stated they dont call it crater grease anymore for whatever reason. But matching the descriptions I found on the web for crater grease and matching to the Gear Shield it has to be the same stuff.

Let me know,
Rick

Would this grease work for wagon wheels? We had some but Dad used it all up covering the plow bottoms and since have had to use standard gun grease, which doesn't last very long. The wagon wheel grease we had, would stretch somewhat like raw latex.

James,
Never used other than on gears. It is real tacky like you describe.
