Is a old john deere side discharge chain flail type spreader worth any thing?

Not if it's all rusted out, but otherwise if all the pieces are there and it is in working order, I think your best bet would be to drag it to a consignment auction to sell it.

I would imagine worth would depend upon condition of the spreader and chains. My uncle had one to spread chicken manure years ago. It worked good but they adapted it to start unloading from both ends. Took quite a bit of power but he ran it with a late A. Had to start it with tractor in neutral. I rebuilt the chains on it a couple times but as the links streched they would rub the sides and wore grooves. It was one spreader that Deere "would stand behind"
