What is a good planter to use to plant a food plot? (couple of acres) Ive seen the john deere flex 71"s and 70"s and also the covington planters but dont have any experience with any of em. I want something that I can plant pretty much any garden seed with. If JD 70 or 71, what is the difference and what should I look for. Thanks.

i have a 48 cub with the planter on it and fertlize hopper. is sure is nice to plant a garden with. you can watch the seed coming out of the hopper and the fertlize too. it does real good on corn, pumpkins and gourds. i use a small hand pushed seeder for smaller seeds than that after first laying off the rows with the cub. you can cultivate real small plants with it real good. its not a race horse to get things done with, but it sure is a nice garden tractor.

If you can find a old drop fertlizer spreader then you can just mix seed and fert together then lightly disk in . A regular fertlizer spreader will work to if set right .

Ive got a Covington thats been driving me nuts to "set".Trying to get the opening disc set to the presser wheel. But last week finally got it and it plants real good with no problems now. They have a web site you can go to and read up on them along with parts diagrams and with owners manuels and they are real good to call to help figure out a problem.Jack with Covington gave me some tips on how to adjust it,they are real good to talk with if you have a problem.Cant say enough good about them for customer service.

The 70"s are just a little older than the 71"s. The 71"s have easier seed depth adjustment and a better way to tighten the drive chain. Both will do a good job of putting seed in the ground if used properly.
