IH Model 700 Semi Mount Plow. 5 Bottom 16

All,

I'm looking at this plow on Ebay.

Wondering if I can drop a bottom off if I need to without too much difficulty?

Looks like the frame has the pattern further up it, but I am not familar with this plow.

we have a mccormick iron cheif 4 bottom plow and we dropped a plow from the unit by taken bolt out and rebolting wheel to the next one matched no problems hope this helps u u have the beam sticking out so watch out for the fence ben their done that

I have switched my 700 automatic reset different times with no problems. The tail wheel control pipe is already drilled to accomodate the change. The extra length of the top beam is not much of a problem.

Rick: I'm not familiar with 700 but all other IH plows you could drop at least one bottom, maybe two in some cases. The only thing you should have to cut is bolts, they might surprise you, depending whether plow has been near salt water or high humidity. The main top beam can be left as is, it will just stick out to left and rear. Once you remove bottoms that box beam sticking out can be hard on things like fence posts or pickups. Don't ask how I know?

Look at the bolt pattern where the bottom standards mount, as well as the tail wheel assembly. Are they all the same? On a 720 they are, you don't need to cut the frame off- just unbolt as many bottoms as you want and move the tail wheel and guage wheel up along the frame. The steering arm is drilled to shorten it as well. 700 MIGHT be the same.

Rick, most of these you might have to cut and weld the rod back to the tail wheel but the rest is just bolts. I just cut the rods and lap them side to side the it is an easy fix to go back later.(next tractor is aways bigger right?)
