I'm not familiar with how big a D model 40 is, but we used to haul with a C and a New Ides (I thnk) ground drive spreader. Not sure how big in bushels, but we had 14 cows in the barn and it would hold 2 days worth of their droppings, plus a little. It did a real good ob, even in the winter. Surprising how much snow that C would go through.

JD 40 spreader is prety tongue heavy. If you don't fill the spreader full and put most of the manure to the rear,, the Super C should handle it so long as it is on solid ground.
