I have a chance to get some knotters off of a IH 46 and 47 baler. I have a IH 27 baler and would like to know if they are the same. I need to go over and look at the balers but don't know if they will work on mine. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Bobg

I am not really sure what all the negatvity is about. If you can read a manual, you can set the knotters properly so they can tie. If you don't buy the manual and try to use what you think will work to set them, they probably won't work right.

The only problems we have ever had with IH knotters are worn duck bills and dull twine knives. Replace the twine knives with the new style with the insetable blades and set per the book.

To answer the posted question, the 46 and 47 are from different serries of balers, but I would not be supprised if the knotters would not interchange.

Had a 45T, I tied more of its bales than it did. they put the twine boxes in just the right place to ride-n-tie.

The nominations for worst baler ever are now open in reply to unioncreek, 01-16-2007 07:23:11
And the nominations are:

IHC 45T (includes the 55T)

IHC 46T (likewise includes it's siblings)

In my view, there is only ONE possible use for these balers that doesn't involve a scrapyard, and that is to cosmeticlly "restore" them, giving them the APPEARANCE of being in working order, and then hitching them behind a restored Farmall of the appropriate vintage and taking the outfit to an antique tractor show. Never admit the baler won't bale and refuse to do demonstrations "on account that you'd get it "dirty""!

For the value of this OLD equipment, you can find something that works---either a JD 14T or 24T or one of many New Holland models, and save a great deal of trouble for yourself.

I spent many discouraging hours behind a 47 baler. Glad you found the one that tied.

I personally wouldn't buy any of those junkers. We had an IH 425 which was very good. I don't have alot of jd stuff but they make a good baler 24t,336, 338 ect.

The little 27 that I have ties pretty good, it only misses if I run a clump through that is wet. We had a 46 when I was growing up that never missed any. When my Dad bought our neighbor was a retired IH mechanic who loved working on balers. We took it to him every year to check adjustment and it ran fine. I've heard of other that didn't have very good luck with the IH balers alot of it has to do with the simplicity of their knotters.

we had a guy who knew knotters that could make ours tie , for 1000 bales then it would again start missing AGAIN, hopefully it is long melted down to make something worthwhile! Ironically IH owned both knotter designs, the M cormick knot was stronger but harder to make hence part of the problem, our 425 had a deering and never missed
