Looking for a harrow to be towed behind a field cultivator and used by itself to incororate chemicals and liquid nitrogen in the spring on fall tilled ground. Any suggestions? Been looking a a Mcfarlane 5 bar spike w/ rolling baskets. Anyone have any experience with one?

i've always heard that it takes lime 6 months to make a difference in the soil. if your ground is heavy clay its a given it needs lime.

I think a spring tooth harrow would do a good job. It will loosen the soil and mix all the chemicals at the same time. You can use a drag
to smooth the soil too.

You may need to use a disk harrow to loosen the soil. You should get a soil sample kit and have the soil checked for the crop you are planning to grow. They can determine what lime needs to be applied and fertilizer. This could be applied prior to disking. I apply lime to my garden every year since I plow under a lot of cover crop,
leaves and grass clippings. My cover crop is barley. With the warm weather we've had this winter the barley is about 6 inches tall. I may plow it under this weekend and let it sit until spring. Hal
