I have found a IH 470 - 15' disc which looks to be in generally good condition for it's age, (price $2800 good or bad????). It has the manual fold up wings on all four corners. Anybody have opinions you would care to share about this model? I would use my 2WD Ford 7810S (90 PTP HP) on this disc. Is this too much disc for a 90 HP tractor? Our farm varies from sand to red clay. The lay of the land is slightly rolling. All feedback is appreciated.

I have a 18' 480 I bought at a auction a couple years ago I think I gave $800 for it and it had good blades and a harrow mounted on it (the harrow was not worth much) I took it off. I use it behind my 1256 it's more tractor than I need but I hate being underpowered. Brian

We have bought an 18' IH 470 disc shortly after we started farming. Been a great tool, Originally pulled it with a JD 4010, 80 hp. That was a good match. Today, when we pull it with larger tractors, we have to be careful not to go over 5 mph or it will ridge. We paid $2500 25 years ago, keep shopping.

Seems like a lot of money to me. Wouldn't argue with the others. I find that most old discs need a pile of work after they arrive here, so buy em cheap, and be prepared to do blades, bearings and gang bolts....
You'd also better dual up and ballast that tractor if you plan on dragging that disc around. Good luck.

I see you are from Mich. Around my area (Flint-Owosso-Lansing) I see disks of all makes up to $1000 or so for the best. I think I would wait and watch a few more auctions. The $1000 models would hit the field with no work whatsoever.

I paid $700 for my JD 13', it needed two $10 seals. Disks still in good shape.

Agree with the other posters, price is way over the top. Fifteen hundred dollars would be the maximum, it would need to be in very good condition, and I would really want to have it! Yes, it is a good disc and you can pull it.

usually 15ft. were not folding, 18.6 or bigger were. 470 is a good disk but a little light for todays corn stalks, bearings last well and are readily available. 90hp on 15ft will be okay but not a run away. nice 470's or the heavier 480's can be bought around here for $500.00 to $1000.00 in the 18 to 21 ft. sizes

I could pull a 15" MF tandem disk with bar harrow in low 4 with my 706 ger.diesel. About 70 hp.
