Looking at an 8114 tandem axle Knight spreader. It's an '04 model very nice. The dealer said new was $12,000 and is asking $9,000.

We have a New Idea single axle bought new in '93.Have since put in new apron and rear apron shaft.Still a nice spreader.

Would be nice to have a second spreader as we pile manure in the winter months.

Any pros or cons to the Knights or doesn't it make sense to have two working spreaders on the farm?? Down time in the winter SUCKS!!Have to use skid-steer to clean barn when spreader is down.

That Knight slinger spreader is like money in the bank. I spread everyday in the winter, I have a Gehl 1312 slinger. When I bought it I was comparing between a Gehl and a Knight. In hind sight I should have bought a Knight. They are virtually indestructable. I used to help out a farmer that had 2 Knight 8018's. He had pen pack barns and would clean them out in the spring. Load after load had zero troubles.

Definitely worth keeping a spare spreader. Infact I have a spare of most of the important machines on my farm. I almost always buy used, so it doesn't break the bank to have two. Saves downtime and I can repair things as time allows. Even new things break.

Aw heck, if ya got a feelin it'd be nice to keep around, keep it. We occasionally rent a second spreader when we're hauling in the spring and fall so we can get it all done in 2 days instead of a full week of messing around.

Last 3 times we rented it was a Knight box spreader, something like 400 bu. so that's an improvement over our 235 bu. H&S we own. I liked it, it had a hydraulic controled apron (w/ flow controler in the cab)and PTO beater. Is the one you're looking at a box or slinger?

IN the past we've had to rent a tractor with enough HP and weight to handle it on the road, but now we've got a bigger tractor that can handle it.

Hi Don-The one we're looking at is a slinger.I like the idea of no apron chain. We would use an Oliver(of course)1850 gasser to pull it.

I have been done the turd spreader for some freinds that last year and half. They have a knight pro twin slinger. I have not had one issue with it, mke sure you get flotation tires if you will be on soft ground. Have used the 1750,1959, and 1850 on it. Only problem I could see is if you are hauling out of yard you really have to keep rocks out if. They will get stuck down by the slinger hammer and make a ton of noise , beat up the hammers, and you will have to shut down and try to get them out via the hyd unload gate. They are great for most crap other than real hard clay like stuff, likes to bridge and not go into the augers. I cant wait to use one for chicken poop next year. I would shop around a bit, that price is a little high.

Thanks for the advice guys!!

I know the price is high, but there's not much for used spreaders around right now.The ones that are around had the crap ran out of 'em(pun intended) or need work.I'll look arond a bit more.

Thanks again~brad
