John deere, woods, and bush hog all make an 8' dual spindal mower. However no body makes a heavy duty 8' unit only medium duty. Does anyone have one or no of one....do the medium duties hold up?

If you want a good heavy 8' cutter you need to look at the TW96 by Servis-Rhino. 120 HP gearboxes. Available in 3 point , Semi-Mount or pull type.

I have owned two Woods Twin spindle mowers which I believe were 80 inch cut. The first was mounted, back in 1964.Unfortunately my cousin sold it at auction by mistake. It was, with out a doubt the finest I have ever owned. The second one was the same size and and design but was a draw bar pull, equally as good but not quite as handy to operate. Both of these mowers seemed to require less horsepower than any others that I have ever used.I always used them with my Minneapolis Moline 335 tractors ( 35 Hp ) and can say that the tractors just played with the load in even the toughest conditions. That has not been my experience with any single spindle 72 inch mower.I am sorry to say that I took all dimensions of the last Wood 80 inch and made a blueprint before I dismanteld the casing to fabricate a new frame and shell. I have retained all of the mechanical parts but all my data was lost during a move to a different farm.If anyone has dimensional data on this machine I will certainly wish to hear from them..

I don't know of an 8' heavy duty, but we just got done with a 6' standard duty Woods - we had it 21 years and hadto do some welding on it when we got it. We just looked at new - the Woods 100 series are much better than our old one (600, 720, 840). Given that a fella doesn't completely thrash one, I can't believe that a nedium duty won't suffice nicely. Like my brother said the other day - "4" trees are why they make chainsaws."

Good luck whatever you choose.
