Anyone know of a data base for New Holland equipment showing year of manufacture based on serial number? I've got a NH 273 baler, serial: 285202 that I'm trying to find out what year it was built. The parts guy at the local New Holland dealer claims he can't look it up (I'm somewhat skeptical, but I had no way of challenging him...). I do know this model was built from '68-'77.

Gumpy, Your baler would have been sold in '74.
They were built from 1968 thru 1976-replaced by
the 310 in 1977. The parts man needs an overhaul,
or be mentored by someone wiser. Chuck

That's bullshit. They can look that up. He just doesn't want to, or doesn't know how. If he doesn't know how, tell him to call Technical. They'll help him out.
Beyond that, the year of manufacture is really only a curosity. In terms of parts ordering, all parts are ordered on a serial number basis as opposed to a model year basis, so you don't need the year.... although it is nice to know. HTH.

Actually the reason they didnt have a problem is because the previous owner gave several pages of parts schmatics with part numbers on it. I can't get to them right now, but I can later.

I would call New Holland corporate, and see if anyone with tech/engineering could help you. I don't know of any website like that. However, I got a NH 273 that was rebuilt by original owner, and traded off because of the rebuild. The manual is copyrighted 1973, I think. I have managed to get some parts like the plunger shield from CNH, and my dealer didnt have any problems looking it up. Dealer- M&I in Daphne AL. My 273 also works well now, and doesn't banana bale at all. Good luck.

have a 277 new holland twine baler that banana bails or one side is tighter than other what causes that email me on this problem

I would say that you are not getting enough material in one side or the other. My 273 likes mid size full windrows. I will check my manual, and try to get back to you. Check this site as I have seen many posts in regard to irregular bales.
