CA cultivators

I'm in the process of setting up an old AC CA for cultivators to work my garden. I took the right rear ram and mounted it underneath where I think it goes and connected up my line. When I tried to raise it, the ram broke half in two right at the casting. I went over to a bone yard got another ram connected it again, but this time I inverted it hoping to have more room between the ram and the rear axle casting. Same exact result. The second one broke in the same place. Anyone have any experience with the CA cultivator installation? I don't have a manual and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks, Dave

Is the cultivator free to lift up.

Can you liftit by hand with the cylinder unhooked to make sure its not caught on something?

Or the rock shaft could be rusted.

Gary, Yeah the tool bar is free as is the rock shaft. I can't see anything the ram would be hitting except the axel casting. Darndist thing I ever saw. It would take a lot of stess to break the casting in two, so it is binding some way. I wonder if the hose could be too tight or not have enough slack?

Usually when you break a cylinder it is from binding in the connecting pins.

Make sure the cylinder is not binding in the connecting pins as it goes up and down with its in and out motion.
