JD 247 planter (need info)

Hello, I'm fixing up a old JD 247 3 point planter that was my wife's grandpa's and I was wondering if plates were still available through JD or ?. Also, it is missing the fertilizer cans.Is there another model that would interchange with it? Any other info on this planter would be appreciated.

I restored a 246-247 planter a couple of years ago. You can use the same plastic plates that the JD 71 Flexi units use; B1, B4, B20 etc.....
I use it to plant sweet corn. You can get manuals and some parts from John Deere. I think I got new decals from Travis Jorde. I have the operators manual if you have any questions.

The 247 is the cotten seed version of the 246 corn planter and here in Ohio cotton is not grown so I do not know how the seed boxes are made to know what plates fit. JD does have a parts catalog avaible with the numbers and all information on every plate they ever made, that would be the way to start and with that you could try a conversion to the Lincoln plastic plates. The fertilizer was the same on the 246-247, 290 & 490 planters. I am also missing the fertilizer boxes for 290 & 490 planters I have here to restore, I do have the cast bottom for the boxes but the sheat steel is missing. I plan to try to use the seed boxes from the 494-495 & 494A-495A & 1200 series planters to make mine. Bottom of the boxes I think, have not yet had the time to actually measure, are the same diameter and shap is approximatly the same so you would have to be an expert to know the difference when on a finnished planter. And the seed boxes would not be rusted out to find them at a parts yard.

I use the plastic plates. You will need to grind down 2 of the 4 drive cogs on plate, but they work just fine.

Fertilizer cans from a #290 are the same. If you need some, I have one. at least thats a start
