on this 3 bottom slatted roll over plow. Make model weight, approx value. Ihooked this up to my leyland 270 and its a little to big for the leyland. I might need to find a smaller plow.
Any help would be wonderful.
Thanks Ben

Ben,

It's never going to work that way.

The gauge wheel, which should be mounted on the land side, is totally missing. There is no way you'll be able to hold that thing using just the hitch as a depth control.

Don't know the make of your plow, but if it had the gauge wheel, it would be a dead ringer for the IH314 with the 3-point conversion hitch added.

Allan

I have the gauge wheel and all the coulters for it. I just had to take the wheel off so i could get it on my trailer. I tried pulling it in the ground but its to much with all the clay.

For sure,

Three bottoms will take at least a 60 horse tractor and you'll still be down in 2nd gear.

Ben: You should be able to remove the back pair of bottoms from that plow. Do you have a manual for the plow? You may have to change some adjustments on plow to run 2 bottoms each way.

I dont have a manual for the plow. The plow was given to me from my wifes grandfathers estate. I dont know what it was doing out there the biggest tractor he had was the leyland. I had to take out the balls in the end of the 3 point arms so the arms would fit the pins on the plow. I also had to put almost 300 lbs on the front of the tractor to keep the front end dowm.

Ben: What size is the Leyland, best give it to me in HP as I'm not up on Leyland tractors. The hookup pins in the plow or the balls in your hitch can be changed to match. Do you know the specs on Cat I, II and III. Sounds like plow is a size larger than tractor.

The plow is a bit deceiving as it looks like IH but the color isn't right. I suspect Allan has it nailed on model. He's an old hand on roll over plows. If the Leyland was your in laws largest tractor, very likely he bought that plow either planning on a larger tractor or removing that back pair of bottoms. I think if the Leyland is 45 hp and you reduced to 2 bottoms each side, you could make a good plowing team of the two. You really don't need 45 hp to pull two bottoms, you probably do need 45 HP to lift the weight.

You said 300# up front to lift plow as is, you take those two bottoms off that back end, I think the Leyland will play with the weight, assuming it's 45 HP. I know Leyland made at least 3 sizes of tractors. There were 3 in my neighborhood, all different in size. That is about what I know on Leyland's.

That leyland is 70HP acording to tractor data. I'm going to take that last 2 plows off and see what happens.
Thanks for the help.

You are trying to post the web page that the pic is on - that won't display.

You need to look at the picture; right-click on it; look at 'properties', and use that web site link to link in just the picture.
