1ST Question-I found a model 488 NH Haybine serial #686668. It looks to have been taken care of, but has been sitting outside for a couple of years since the man quit baling hay. It's Not rusty or bent up, but I didn't have a chance to look closely at the rollers. So give me a dollar ballpark figure with good rollers and a figure with bad rollers. Could you tell me the year also? I'm sure the second number is a 8, but could be a 6. I didn't have my glasses.

2ND Question- My New Idea Disc model 528 is a parts machine. I noticed it has "LELY SYSTEM" on the back or Belt cover. Is it posible to fit another cutter bar off a different brand on this machine? If so what machines would work? Could the donner bar be shorter? Also could you tell me the year of this New Idea machine? Model 528-Serial #1000543 Next block- MD 10. Drum Mower Comment BTW, the only Drum Mower I ever saw that wasn't working, I bought, Realigned the driveline quill and rewelded both broken hinge brakets, mopped out the gearbox, put new gear oil-90WT.,slowly brought the belts to their proper tension, and have been mowing with it every season since 2003. Vermeer 211 by PZ ZWeegers. I love it, and Fergie (165), she loves it!

Thanks again Doc; South Ga. Plowboy

Thanks HayDr for your contributions to this site. You obviously have experience with many different brands the most of us don't know about.

1. I'm not sure of the year but the question is how much life is left in the mower? If it in the shape like you say I'll give you a range of $1,500 - $2,500. These may be worth in alfalfa country but there is not much alfalfa grown in the south.

2.The Lely Optimo System was used by New Idea, Case/IH, Vermeer 20 series. We have HayMAXX cutterbars and frames that are interchangable with any of these disc mowers.

The PZ211 mower should use EP0 in the gearbox. It is a fluid style grease that pours like molasses. Gear oil will work but the seal system is not designed for gear oil and may not have the proper breather for gear oil.

Thanks Doc: I didn't know that about my drum mower, but you can rest assured, my baby will have her some EPO where I start pulling maintenace in Feburary. could you tell me please, how much should be poured in her Gear box? We don't have Alfafa like you do up north, but we do have something that needs the same machine as Alfafa to cut it...Perennial Peanut hay.

Thanks for all of your information; Your friend; South Ga Plowboy
