I just bought a 2 bottom plow and would like to know where I can get info for it. A number I found on the beam is IH P C/G/O/0??? 17184A. There is a pic in the implement photo section
Any info would greatly appreciated.

John: Your plow is a Little Wonder, No.4, built in the 1930s and 40s. Little Wonder plows came equiped with either long landside on back moldboard or a fixed tail wheel.

Little genius plows had a lift type tail wheel with a linkage going to rochshaft of left front wheel. Those type tail wheels lifted back of plow.

They are both good plows, capable of doing excellent work.

Would the tail wheel have any effect on how the plow moves thru the soil. Specifically, would there be any issue with depth control?

John: The depth control is all maintained by the front wheels of the plow. The tail wheel does stop back of plow from going any deeper in soft soil than the depth established by front wheels. The long landside on Little Wonder plows has a shoe which does the same. As I said before the Little Wonder plow came equiped with either long landside or a fixed tail wheel. Both of them kept the plow from pushing to the left, by holding against the landside of furrow. The back of the plow was lifted by a chain or linkage from plow frame to hitch point of the tongue near the tractor.

The Little Genius tail wheel on the other hand held plow from pushing to the left as well as raised and lowered back of plow, via the linkage from tail wheel to rockshaft of the left front wheel. Again the Little Genius tail wheel prevented plow from going deeper at back than that established by front plow wheels.The Little Genius did give neater entry and exit to and from soil, thus made nice square headlands. Now there are good Little Wonder plowmen, that will tell you this is a bunch of hog wash, they can make every bit as nice headlands as Little Genius plowmen. I don't doubt but what they are right, it's just easier to do with a Little Genius. My Little Wonder plowman neighbor tells me, I don't have to be quite as smart as he is using my Little Genius. I just tell him I don't have all day to be perfect. As you can see, the argument will probably never have a decission.

Hugh, thanks for the valuable info. Though I am still a little confused. I posted the pics in other forums and have been told that I have a Little Genius plow. Now, from the pics of the little Genius and looking at what I have, I cannot determine if 1.) where the lift wheel linkage would attach 2.) I have found no evidence (i.e. witness marks, etc) of the wheel bracket. However, there is no long landside on the rear plow that would go with the Little Wonder. Are there any other features that would help me distinguish the two from each other?

One more question. If it is indeed a Little Wonder plow, then how would I transport the plow without dragging the rear plow? Does the rear plow naturally lift up due to the forward motion of the whole plow? It appears that the plow point will not drag, just the raer portion of the back plow.

John: I looked at your plow back when you posted the photo. You don't have a Little Genius plow. It is a Little Wonder No.4. You go back and read what I said in my earlier posts. It could be that someone has removed either the long landside or the fixed tail wheel.

The rear of Little Wonder plow is lifted by a chain from tractor hitch point to upper frame of plow at front.
