Vermeer 605H experts??

Reading some old post to study up on Vermeer as I'm considering buying a 605H this week. I read the H model has double springs. This unit has single, one on each side. Did some come that way? This baler is one owner and has app 24000 bales. Original belts and bearings. Baler looks great as paint is like new. Always shedded. Has new chain. Owner says does leak at gearbox seals, needs new seals. I've looked at alot of Vermeers here late, and most are pretty torn up. If you have time have alook. shfarmsupply.com It's the only H model listed in used equipment. 3 nice photos. Price is $3000 cash. Thanks for comments.

Sounds like a deal. Good balers, basically an updated F model. They will not keep up with the more modern balers, but will do just fine if you don't need to be able to make 200 bales a day. The biggest drawback is you have to be careful starting the bale. KEH nailed it with his post. Vermeer teeth, not aftermarket, good flaps and proper tooth to drum adjustment. Check the manual how to adjust, I don't think you use the screw jack. This adjusts pickup height above ground. It's the rods on the side of the pickup.

The double springs on each side do not make much difference. The hydraulic cylinder puts enough pressure on the belts and it will make a rock hard bale. Given the age of the baler you likely will need to replace the belts because of oxidation of the belts. If properly maintained the pickup should make it on an H baler to at least 40,000 bales unless its been in sandy conditions. The bale is worth between $1,500 - $4,000 depending on condition. $850 will buy you a new set of 3 ply belts.

If its in good shape that is most likely a decent price. I bought one in Salina, KS this fall for $1650, it has worked out pretty well for us with a few odds and ends that needed fixing ( relaced a belt, replaced some pickup teeth, etc ).

Ours has double springs on the sides, maybe some came with single ones, I'm not sure.

Looks like a creampuff baler. I don't know about double springs either. The hydraulic cylinder at the top center provides pressure on the bales. Maybe double springs were an option.

It is an open throat baler. Secret to reliably starting bales is to have good pickup teeth and to adjust the distance between the pickup teeth and the cylinder with the 4 flaps on it, using the screw ratchet jack that pivots the tongue, according to the instruction manual.
