Sounds like double trouble!!!! Your going to round bale, unroll, & bale again into square bales???? More time, labor, fuel, twine, sounds like a dumb idea to me, but I've been wrong before??!!

Cut the round bale in half before you unroll it.Then use a hydraulic unroller that you may have to modify for it to work.Feed the straw right into the baler with both setting still. You might also have to remove part of the hay hold down the get it to feed right.

I have tried it also with poor results. My main concern was safety. I unrolled a bale in the field, but the resulting windrow was too much for the baler. Tried to move into it easy, but the baler would just pull big wad into the pickup. I then unrolled a bale in a pile and tried to fork it into the pickup. I thought that was very unsafe. Best bet - square bale it the first time and be done with it.

looks like a bale unroller used followed by sq baler would work. I've seen grass hay converted that way.

try it sometime, I have tried all different brands unrollers etc and it just doesn't work very well. You have to get the hay broken back apart or loosen up alot or the small baler just won't take it. I have even unrolled them and then run disc mowco back oevr it and still did not work very good. the last three ft diameter or so of bale is really hard to get back apart. if you want it over field faster just get another square baler and do it right the first time,It is alot cheaper and more profitable I have found out, especially if this is not grass hay

I have tried that over the years and it is really hard to get it to pay out from what we have done. double the string etc etc for the same crop residue etc
