Both seals leaking. Owner got thu summer with grease gun grease in box. Baler for sale. Is this a sign of major problems or just need seals? Cost est of "major problems"???? Thanks for comments from those who been inside the box.

Ran a 605 F that had a leak, ran it for years like that. I tried to replace seals once but did not help any. At first of season I would put in half grease lube then other half 90 weight. 1000's of bales like ran like that. Would like to have got it fix, but never got around to it. It does make a mess though when it leaks.

Not hard at all to change the seals. I did one in a 605F. Pull the box and set it on your work surface, socket head screws up. Remove the screws and lift the top half off. Everything then pulls up out of the lower half. The gears were OK on mine so I replaced seals, bearings and keys. Bearings and seals are available aftermarket. The parts book says the key was hardened, so I bought that from Vermeer. Reassamble with silicone between the two halves.

Holliday's Equipment, Laurens, SC, ph 682 3931 probably has a used gear box or can advise you on rebuilding that one. If you call, speak up, he has hearing problems. Try to call early, like between 7-8 Eastern time.
