Not exactly 'tractor stuff', but need help

I picked up an old Mccormick-Deering MB1475 horse drawn sicklebar mower.

I was hoping someone could point me in a direction to get info on it and possibly parts.

It is a "Big 6".

(missing part it the bar that slides back and forth that the knives rivet to. Also whatever joint should be on the end of it for the arm to connect to).

Can I possibly purchase new parts and make them fit?

Right now the release pedal is frozen open and the gear box is full of leaves and junk. Tomorrow if it isn't freezing I will clean it up and make sure it works.

Would a manual show how to take it all apart.
My main worry is that I'll go to unbolt parts and they will snap off in it. The machine shops up here can't seem to handle such things.

You need the knife and knife head and that will fit any pitman drive mower up to the newest mower made by IHC.

You mean that I can use parts of any IHC mower (that uses a pitman arm)?

That would be great.

As everyone can see I don't know a whole lot about mowers.

Can I use standard knives and gaurds on this?
If not is there a way to convert it easily so I can?

Thanks for the help (as you can see I am researching so I can at least call the parts by their right names)

I think you have a part number mixed up with a model number. The McCormick mowers started out with a No. 4, Big 4, No. 6, Big 6, No. 7 & Big 7, and No. 9 with a 1 horse that did not have a model number that was an open gear the same as the Nos 4 & 6 mowers while the 7 & 9 were closed gear, now if it is a tractor mower it would have a number like, 16, 25, or 27 with a couple of leters that would designate tractor model it fit. And soulds like the parts you are needing are the cycle (Knife) with the knife head and pitman with irons.

As far as I can see right now I need the bar (that slides back and forth, with the parts to hook it to the wooden drive pole) and teeth.

Sorry for not knowing the technical names for them.

That sounds like the sickle bar that's missing.
It has the mower sections riveted to it and they do the cutting. If you live near an Amish community they may have parts yo you need. hal
