What reasonable size disk plow can I pull behind a 75-horse tractor? Can a larger disk plow be pulled than a regular moldboard plow does it produce the same resistance?

Sorry for the confusion I was thinking of a offset disk plow something like a 26� 3 or 4 disk but I live in hilly terrain so I don�t know how to factor the grade in as it would not be the same as flat ground and my soil conditions are really hard clay. Maybe more than 4 disks but I don�t want something that will work my tractor to death either just normal work.

I pull a 28" two disc plow with a 135 Gas, no problem.

You may want to describe exactly what type of "disk plow" you mean because there is confusion "in the ranks" when it comes to understanding this. There is disk plow, one-way, offset disk, etc. All different.

We would sell the HM-150, 3 disk plow for the Farmall M. It would be ordered with 28" inside bevel disks which would give you a about 30 inches of cut.

Hans: Quite a variety in plowing disks. If your talking offset with 26" blades, you probably wont cover anymore ground width than with a moldboard plow. I had a 5x16 semimount moldboard plow I pulled in sandy loam with 656 Farmall, 5x16 would give 80" cut. I had a 10' offset disk with 26" blades that worked a 100 hp 4x4 close to it's limit, and yes 4x4 was needed. I always figured that disk was just a bit harder pull per foot of cut, than the moldboard plow. 22" or 24" blades do make quite a difference, but then they don't cut as deep either. Most disks have an upgrade in arbor size, spacer size after you go over 24" blade. That extra steel adds a lot of weight. Before I bought my disk, I tried both 24" and 26". I couldn't get 24" blade disk to cut as deep as moldboard plow. Side by side there is quite a difference in frame, blades, arbors, spacers and bearings. Wasn't hard to see why 26" cut deeper than 24".

I pull a 2 disk plow with a 34 hp tractor, and there is no problems what so ever. The tractor does not even strain at a depth of 8 inches in clay. I think it pulls easier than a moldboard plow.
