Hello...has anyone ever came across a Powr-Trol unit for the old John Deere 290 corn planter? This is a pair of arms that hold a hydraulic cylinder for use on a JD 290 planter, instead of using the rope-pull to raise & lower the planter. If so, I could use some measurements & pics, if possible. I am trying to make a setup to use a hydraulic cylinder with the 290 planter without much luck. Please e-mail me or leave a message here.. Thanks..... ..Grady J

There are pictures with part numbers in some of the operators manuals and there is a parts only book avaible (or was) from John deere. I think with those books you could see what you need to fabricate the unit. You could also come up close to the measurements with those books And the cylinder would have been the standard B tractor 2 1/2" X 8" cylinder

Thanx....I've been looking at the manual (I have 2 different manuals) and parts aren't available at all for this 290 planter (not from John Deere anyway)...but I am using a 2 1/2" x 8" cylinder, so at least that part helps. I just can't can't seem to get the right set-up to make it open the fertilizer cans when it's down then go back up far enough when I raise it back up. Thanx for the info, that helped. Grady J

Try looking at an older JD grain drill from the 50s. I think an FBB used the same lift machanism.

Ok...I'll try the older grain drills then. No one suggested that. Thanx for the help. I appreciate it. Grady J
