The manual reads, 5.90 x 15. Is this the correct tire size for this plow? What tire size am I supposed to have. The 5.90 x 15 seems small for the rims.

Scott

In 1952 John Deere changed the wheel size from 16" to 15" presumably to correspond to the trend at that time to smaller wheels on automobiles. This made it easier for a farmer to order his plow without tires and be able to find used car tires and save a few dollars. Earlier versions of the 55 series plows used 21" tires when that was a more common auto tire size. The vertical portion of the plow axle is longer on these later plows to maintain transport clearance. To answer your question; 5.90x15 is the specified size for late 55 series furrow wheels and for 55A and 55B (clutch lift)land wheel. 55H (hydraulic )plows specified a 6.40x15 power implement tire for the land wheel.

What size 16 inch tire does a 55H take? 6.00-16?

5.50x16 rib implement is the specified size, but a 6.00x16 would work just as well.

I figure my manual is a post 1952 manual. I had the old tire in the garage and it is a 16 inch. So I reckon I'll have to find some 16 inch tires and put on it.

Thanks,

Scott Griffith

I have a 44H and it has 16 inch rims on the furrow and land wheels. Seems like all that vintage of plows would use the same tire size. Possibly it is a misprint in your manual. Measure the rim and see what you need.
