Some of the older equipment uses the square/rectangle link chain---the one that does not use a pin to join the next link---each piece is exactly like the next, has a built in type pin on one side, a kinda like C on the other side of the link-----I am sure you know what I am talking about----- I bought a corn picker that uses this type chain on the conveyor and on the stalk "puller chain"----- -should this chain be oiled?? It seems to never have been oiled and seems to me fine. I was wanting to clean up this machine and greese/oil what is needed. A Neighbor told me if I greese this chain---it will probably get oil on the corn also I am thinking that if I oil it--it could collect and hold dirt. Thanks for the help. Randy

We oiled manure spreader chain, & a very few that ran at high speed in the open.

never oiled anything that ran slower, in dirt/dust, or in the grain itself. The dust from the grain is kind of a talc to lub it.

For what our experience was worth. Dad kinda liked to soak machines, him, & me in oil & grease, so if he didn't lube it, it must not have needed it.... ;)

those chains are why you save used oil for. once or twice a day depending on how much you use it

It is called flat detachable chain.Should be oiled daily. Oil on the corn will not be an issue.
