Michael: When I recommended 3" and preferably 4", I did not even consider the lift ability or speed of lift. I was purely recommending a cylinder that will standup to the intended use. A 2" cylinder will be bypassing internally within a month if you don't bend the ram first. Disks rarely bend hydraulic rams in the field, it happens during road travel, where one may encounter a bump on hard ground. My dad bought a new Farmall 300 in 1955, a year or two later he bought a new Cockshutt 8' wheel controlled disk with a new 3" cylinder. Within two years we bought a new 4" cylinder. Yes, the 4" cylinder was marginally slower, as it takes more oil to make the same lift. We're not talking front end loaders here where fast cycle time is important. Your disk is probably much better off being raised more slowly anyhow. I don't know what tractors these guys are refering to as having old and slower hydraulics. I think they best consult a hydraulic technician. The only tractor I know of that would be noticably slow on a 4" implement cylinder, would be one with an almost cooked pump. I've been running tractors since the says of first hydraulics and never seen one too slow hydraulically on any pull type implement, having only one 4" cylinder. If I remember correctly I had 8 implement cylinders on my farm, only 2 were 3" and the rest were 4". As I recall the 3" cylinders were never off haybine and forage harvester, and those both had spring assist set so man could lift header weight by hand anyhow.
