Anybody know a good source for manure spreader parts? I need to find replacement springs for the ratchet mechanism on a ground driven spreader.

Well, you would go to the dealer the spreader came from for OEM parts. You haven't told us what brand it is, so no one can help with that.

Dad finished the day with some stout rubber bands on ours one day decades ago.

Hardware stores have bins of springs if you need an expanding spring. Easy to find, and exact specs are not important for this job.

Compression springs are a little tougher, but should find them at a better hardware store.

Try your local farm supply store sounds like a common spring might be worth a try. Do you have part of the old spring to show and tell?

(Antique tractor internet service) Click on the classified ads link and either search for what you are looking for or submit your own ad. It's free and I have used it and found parts for my David Bradley spreader. Might be worth a try.

What brand of spreader is it? I have a few contacts for a some brands. JD, David Bradley, and Mineapolis Moline. Also, which model would be some help to find the exact spring. Looking for used or new?

Check out McMaster Carr they carry all kindsof springs and so on.

Depending on the spring I have gotten a good number of them at auto parts stores. These are made to be cut and fitted as needed

I"m wanting the spring that connects to the ratchet pawl on the right side of a spreader.

Using another spreader for comparison, it would appear that I need a spring about 10 inches long, 3/4"-1" in diameter. The material making the spring appears to be about 1/32" or 1/16" thick.

I looked at shoupparts, but all I see available is apron chains etc.

Sounds a lot like a clutch return spring that you can buy at say and O'reillys auto parts store. They sell a pack of springs with 4 or 6 of them in the pack and you then just cut/bend the one end as needed to make it fit. I almost always keep a pack around for things that need a spring replaced
