I've been wondering, which do you prefer to use for snow removal and also scraping ice?

A nice thing about a rear blade over a box scraper is that you can angle it to throw the snow to the side when opening up long lanes, etc. I often turn my blade around and push with it but traction can be somewhat limited unless you have 4WD. (Tire chains would be a huge help unless you are working on a surface that scratches up easily.) Operating with the blade in the reversed position lets you pile snow up without having to drive through the pile.

I've got a box blade on the back of my Farmall M. It has blade surfaces pointing forward and backward, and does a pretty good job of pushing snow in reverse. Mostly, it's beneficial because it adds a lot of weight to the back of the tractor when pushing snow forward with a blade mounted on the loader frame.

Box blade might work better on ice but not snow because it would fill up and then you would be dead in the water. Back blade works ok for snow but doesn't touch the ice. My self I prefer some thing up front since it gets the snow/ice before your tires hit either one
