I have been always amazed by the vintage technics of the wheel driven machinery. Binders, harvesters, and even manure spreaders. How our forefathers used these gadgets for farming is amazing. Now seriously, I have stumbled upon an old gale (not gehl) two-row corn planter. I have never heard of this company and can't find any information on it as well. I was wondering if anyone has any information on this planter or the company. Price to offer the owner and worth would be also appreciated. I am new to vintage collecting so any help would be fine.

Most likely it was built by the Gale Mfg. co. in Albion, Mich. They built horse farm equipment in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I think they went out of business in the 1950's. They were not building farm equipment in later years. I have see manuals for Gale equipment on E-Bay ever so often. I don't have anything on the corn planters.

I also thought you had misspelled gehl, however their were Gale Buckaneer outboard engines available in the 50s, looked a lot like evinrude,s , and johnson,s. They were made in Ill.

Yeah, Gale Products of Galesburg, IL also made Lawn Boy mowers. They were acquired by Outboard Marine Corp. in the 1960s??? They closed the plant in the early 80s and moved it to Missouri, if I remember correctly. I worked for Gale in the mid 70s as a maintenance weldor. Too bad they pulled out.

I am hoping you will reply to my Email. After I wrote I found two more Gale planters were mfd.
One in Mich. the other in Ohio. My feeling is that Gale co. was sold several times to different
companies through its short lifetime.

When I read the title of this message, I thought for sure that you had misspelled, and meant to say Gehl, but obviously I was wrong. I have not heard of the Gale brand, but, unless it turns out to be something extremely rare and in high demand, I think you should be able to buy it for around $150 or less.
