Dearborn Plow bolts...need ideas

The rolling landside on my Dearborn plow was loose and the old bolts just turned when I tried to tighten up the nuts. I wound up taking the old bolts out and was going to replace them...turns out to be harder than I thought.

Modern 5/8 x 2.5" plow bolts fit in the hole, but the heads are bigger and shaped differently from the originals, so they turn in the holes and stick out on the plow/landside side. My New Holland dealer told me he can't get the old bolts anymore.

Any ideas, or suggestions how to get it together again?

thanks!
Tom A

Where these the square bolts, which I think of for cultivator sweeps & the like. They have a perfectly round head tapering down to the bolt with a square sholder in the taper.

Or were these plow bolts, which are typically clipped-head, or tapered round, with 2 flat spots one on each side?

Both come in several sizes.

Glad you got it worked out anyhow.

I got it fixed today, by combining several ideas from all of you.

I used my arc welder and added some metal to the inside of the bolt holes on the plow landside itself. Then I smoothed it with a mototool. Finally, I heated the bolts and pounded them into the hole. Everything worked fine and my plow is finally together properly for the first time since I've owned it.

If the new bolts are too large, heat them to a cherry red and drive them into the hole. You might have to heat them and drive them down a couple times or so.Then grind off the excess.Thats how a blacksmith would do it.

Im trying to picture whats going on. I think what your saying is the square part on the bottom of the head is to small on the new bolt. Just take a welder and weld a bead on the square sides then grind it down to the right size. Or look for bolts somplace else, I found that new holland dealers are about worthless. They are around me anyways.

I really can't help with your problem but just to get clear in my mind what you're talking about.
When I think of 'plow bolts' I think of a round head which tapers to a square shank. The head is in the plowing surfaces and scours away with the part.
I'm not familiar with the term 'rolling landside.' My age and being away from the farm is showing.
Sorry to interupt.

I assume the original bolts were square head. All you need to do is grind two opposing corners off a hex head bolt.
